Imagic was founded in the 1990s with the vision to significantly increase productivity and quality in optical material inspection through image management and data processing. Since 1992, Imagic has been combining hardware and software to maximize the value creation of digital images in professional environments.

As a system supplier and integrator, Imagic offers complete solutions from a single source, covering everything from evaluation to implementation and post-support. After more than three decades and thousands of installations, Imagic is now a globally active general contractor for image management systems, focusing on the Materials Science, Medical and Police markets.

With around 50 employees in Switzerland, Germany, and Great Britain, Imagic produces the core of its image management technology exclusively at the headquarters in Glattbrugg, Zurich.

Imagic is owner-managed and 100% family-owned. In addition to independence and continuity, this also ensures that the medium to long-term goals are not compromised through short-term profitability.

Challenge

Imagic previously used Polarion to manage requirements, defects, and tasks. However, over time, it became evident that Polarion could no longer meet all operational needs. The system lacked key functionalities necessary for efficiently managing the software engineering process, and updates to the on-premise installation were both complex and costly. Additionally, the shift from a perpetual licensing model to a subscription-based model prompted the decision to transition to Atlassian Jira.

The primary challenge during this transition was migrating all existing content, including tickets and attachments, from Polarion to Atlassian Jira. This migration was critical to ensure uninterrupted operations, prevent data loss, prevent data loss, and maintain the integrity of Imagic’s image management systems without the complexities of running multiple platforms simultaneously.

Solution

To address this challenge, Imagic partnered with Holycode, which provided expertise in the data migration process from Polarion to Jira Cloud. The migration involved transferring all existing tickets and content to Jira, ensuring seamless data availability in the new system. Holycode’s support was instrumental in making the transition smooth and efficient. With Jira Cloud, Imagic now benefits from a more flexible system and has successfully retired its old ALM solution.

Andreas Fürer

CTO of Imagic Bildverarbeitung AG

As the CTO, I believe that ticket and task management systems, such as Polarion and Jira, are the backbone of any software engineering organisation. By partnering with Holycode, we ensured a smooth transition that minimised disruption for our engineering, QA, and support teams. Thanks to Holycode’s expertise, the migration was completed on time and within budget.
